The next weekend we headed to Houston to visit Louie's parents and had a great time. The weather was beautiful on Saturday, so after a yummy breakfast and a failed attempt to ride the train at the zoo (it was closed) we headed over to the Children's Museum and had a fabulous time! That evening we had some delicious mac&cheese and a couple of last minute fittings for Kinsley's Halloween costume (more on that later!!). We were able to spend the morning at their church on Sunday before driving home. I'm so thankful that we live only a car ride away and we're able to spend some quality time catching up. Visiting family before involved plane rides and long car rides with kids and that was rough. We get to see the Strykers again soon at Thanksgiving!
Halloween festivities began with a trip to the pumpkin patch with the girls and my mom. The girls had so much fun in the hay maze, playing in the corn bin (actually Kinsley loved this, Aubrey did not like corn on her toes!), face painting and crawling through all of the pumpkins. It's a definite do again next year. The next activity was the Spooktacular carnival. My sister came down from Austin and we had a great time! There was tons for the kids to do and see! Kinsley's favorite was the ballon animals and Aubrey's favorite was the Lucky Duck game.
Kinsley also had a fun performance at her school that included a costume parade and a short concert of fall/halloween songs. My mom, Leigh Ann, Aubrey and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the kiddos and especially Miss K perform!
We did Halloween this year at my dad's house. My mom and Marcus and my brother and his family came too, as well as my friends' Allison and Andrea and their sweet families!! Even Andrea's parents and sister were able to join us! We were quite the crew but the weather was PERFECT and we had the best time! The adults made some cocktails (water for me though!) and hit the streets. It was so fun!
Aubrey wore Kinsley's cow costume from a few years ago. She was obsessed with this costume and carried it around with her for weeks before the actual day! The poor cow was pretty dirty from being drug around our house and in and out of the car. She even slept with it a couple of nights. The thing was, she did NOT want to wear the costume. Any time you started to put her feet in the costume she would start screaming... so I figured, come Halloween night, she would just carry her costume around with her. Turns out she's very susceptible to peer pressure because the moment the other kids arrived in their costume she asked to put on her cow and wore it the rest of the evening. She didn't even want to take it off after we were done trick or treating! Silly girl!
Kinsley's costume has quite the story too. Last year, Louie and Carol made her pumpkin costume so this year, Carol graciously offered to make it again this year. Little did she know that Kinsley was going to ask to be this crazy obscure character from the Monster's Inc movie. This was not a small project. Carol and Garvin charged at it with gusto and did an amazing job! She whispered to me one night after getting the costume from in Houston, "Mom. I can't' believe I get to be Boo for Halloween!" I still can't believe how well it turned out. Thanks Shorty and G! Y'all rock!!
